My wife and I decided to take a trip in celebration of our retirement. On Jeopardy she saw a 13 day Amtrak train trip with visits to Yellowstone, Yosemite and The Grand Canyon national parks with stops in L.A. and San Francisco offered as a prize. So, all of a sudden the planning for our trip was done. On Tuesday 9/236/21 we had an uneventful 6 AM flight to Chicago to meet the train. The flight actually landed 35 minutes early!

While killing time waiting for the train departure a young artist sitting nearby asked for my opinion if an email he received about selling his art on line looked like a scam or not. It looked legit to me and I gave him advice on how to proceed and protect himself. Later it dawned on me that I never asked about his art. I wasn’t in vacation mode yet and was focused on my own plans. I’ll have to get better at mingling. We took a taxi from Midway Airport to Union Station. Our kamikaze driver continuously cut across 4 lanes of stop and go highway traffic; he was driving the way I’d like to if I wasn’t concerned about insurance rates.

Our train left right on time and we were shown to our roomette. Small doesn’t begin to describe it. I was reminded of the old saying that you had step outside to change your mind. I have included a picture of my wife relaxing in our room.

Well over aged 60 (well, OK, a lot more than that...) father of one outstanding young woman, unworthy husband of the most patient and talented woman in the world, retired small business owner, lover of all the wrong foods, political junkie and resident of NH. A conservative with a libertarian streak, and a thoughtful, impish, dedicated curmudgeon.
